Abstract: Chapter 2 takes a quick look at the biome in which the Namib Fairy Circles occur: the Namib Desert. The geographical position of the Namib is outlined on a map, which shows the areas with the lowest precipitation. The northern and southern limits of the desert are shortly discussed. The fairy circles likely evolved in the Namib Region. Therefore, a short introduction to the peculiar environmental history of the Namib is given. Finally, a map shows the areas where fairy circles occur.
